Champions celebrate with other champions. So it is with Manny Pacquiao, ring king, and my Boston Celtics, court kings, who whooped it up in Las Vegas after Pacman put an old fashioned ass whooping on David Diaz. The fight was so one-sided it reminded me of the final game against the LA Fakers.
No Kobe steak for you, purple and gold guys. I am only surprised the super hero Celtics did not rescue Billy The Goat. I bet Danny Ainge could find some use for Billy, maybe to fill in for Leon Powe once in a while.

 The TRUE Mexican boxing icon Julio Cesar Chavez's battles with drugs and alcohol are well known by fans. Yesterday, according to Chavez Sr., he has been sober for one year and appeared on popular Los Angeles Spanish language radio show Piolin por la mañana.

Which reminds me that canny promoter Bob Arum did miss one cute trick when it came to the smartest member of the David Diaz camp, Billy The Goat. Years ago, the National Lampoon had a cover photo of a cute puppy. The cover line was something “if you don’t buy this magazine, we will kill the dog;”

 He is leaving the ring as a fighter but a frank and relaxed Oscar de la Hoya told Boxingconfidential's Slavic Koza that his myriad business activities will keep him occupied after his Dec. 6 farewell fight so much that he will not be tempted to launch a comeback.
A crowd of adults and many children showed up at Bookends in Ridgewood, NJ, Thursday night to meet and greet the boxing icon who was signing copies of his just released autobiography, "American Son."

Who ever thought Floyd Mayweather and Oscar de la Hoya would both retire in 2008? In the wake of Pretty’s Boy sudden retirement at age 31, Oscar has now decided that his final pro fight will take place Dec. 6.

Curious timing or well planned? You make the call as Oscar de la Hoya is beaming as he signs books at a Manhattan bookstore Tuesday. The fighter-promoter is peddling his story, “American Son” which was ghosted by LA Times scribe Steve Springer.
One person sure not to be mentioned in the book is the Russian stripper who caused Oscar so much trouble and embarrassment with those Oscar in drag photos.

 Golden Boy Promotions is about to get a letter from the WBO officially notifying them that Joel Casmayor has been stripped of his interim lightweight title status. Casamayor retains his Ring magazine title. Ring is the boxing publication owned by GBP.
This notification will set in motion WBO champ Nate Campbell’s mandatory and his new challenger will be two-time WBO champ (at 126 and then 130 pounds) Joan Guzman.

Insiders in the Joel Casamayor camp said Monday night that the slick Cubano southpaw did not return a signed contract to the WBO or to Don King. The reason being, of course as we’ve kept reporting, is Casamayor is letting his WBO interim lightweight title status go bye-bye. Boxing promoters Fearless Frank Warren and Bob Arum are suddenly inseparable, seemingly attached at the tip.
The two promoters tell our roving reporter and Mad Russian, Slava Koza, that they are indeed cooking up a Kelly Pavlik-Joe Calzaghe superbout for the fall. The tentative working date for Calzaghe-Pavlik is October 18. Arum said if it's on PPV, it's likely to be held in the U.S. but, if not, the bout will take place in the UK.
