 Boxingconfidential.com has been informed that Golden Boy Promotions officials are laying the ground work for a possible 130-pound world title unification bout between two undefeated champions, Edwin Valero of Venezuela and Joan Guzman of the Dominican Republic.
This stunning news comes on the heels of Golden Boy's announcement that it will co-promote a Manny Pacquaio-Juan Manuel Marquez WBC 130-pound title bout at the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas on March 15. Pacman-Marquez, the rematch between the Pinoy idol and the Mexican, will be the top of an HBO PPV show to be run in conjunction with Bob Arum's Top Rank.
Valero is fighting on a PPV show from Cancun, Mexico, on Dec. 15 which will be co-promoted by Teiken Promotions of Japan and DiBella Entertainment.
The winner of Guzman-Valero is the natural next foe for the Pacman-Marquez survivor.
"Golden Boy believes it can make Guzman, who they co-promote with Sycuan, against Valero. Oscar de la Hoya is very friendly with Akihiko Honda and the Teiken team. It may not be possible to stage this event in America due to Valero's being denied a New York license several years ago. Valero had a brain injury from a motorcycle accident in his native country," the source which did not want to be identified told Boxingconfidential.com.
"Golden Boy is working with serveral concepts on possibly getting Edwin licensed in the U.S.," the source said. "If they can't maybe they will take this blockbuster fight to Mexico, to Venezuela or to the Dominican Republic."
The informed source believes that Valero will easily get licensed almost anywhere outside America.

Guzman can win this fight if he goes past Round 1-3 against Valero.
But, I doubt if Guzman can withstand the wild-bangin Valero.
Valero is unpredictable, and with Guzman's style who doesn't engage that much and mostly wins by decision, Valero will strike and whack him in the early round, and most likely in the first round.
Valero's camp will know for sure, that if the fight goes down the stretch, it will be decision win for Guzman...
Valero's camp knows that Guzman is too slick, too fast, too slippery...
So, they will impose will the earliest rounds and go for an immediate knock-out...
This fight will go either way. But, I chose Valero...by KO...in any of the rounds.... |

After being given the opportunity to fight the superbantam weight champion Ledwaba after only a few days notice as a replacement, he has fought fighters that qualified him to fight the highly regarded "Barrera." After Barrera, he went on to fight highly respected fighters. There was no let up! BOTTOM LINE: He is not superman who can fight more than 10 people at the same time. Give credit where credit is due! Do not be blind!---- When deciding for the next fight... when he decided that he would fight Marquez, people say that he is fighting a washed up fighter, if he decided that he wanted to fight Diaz, Guzman, Valero et al people would say that he is running away from Marquez. So regardless of who he decides to fight, people would say something. Because he has the upper hand now, you guys calling him Pacquita! enough Pacman for a while. this is a very, very good idea. finally a match-up for the ages. a slick boxer and a power puncher, let's see whose style makes the difference. but hey, my favorite here to win the fight is valero. the difference between guzman's opponents and valero is that they don't possess the capabality in knocking out their foes, while valero on the other hand proved it so many times ago that he is the tragic ending for his opponent. i think that even if guzman uses his mayweather-like slickness, one wrong move towards el inca will result into an early knockout loss for him.
