It looks like the legally-induced “honeymoon” between Oscar de la Hoya and Bob Arum and their respective boxing promotional companies is over. Both Arum’s Top Rank and Oscar’s Golden Boy Promotions are back to putting their own self-interest first and foremost.
Had to happen, it’s human nature after all and, yes, fight promoters are humans, too.
Why do I say the hot to trot romance is cooling? Exhibit A is the Manny Pacquaio Opponent Derby.
Arum is pushing extremely hard for Pacman to slide up to 135 pounds and hopefully relieve David Diaz of the WBC title. Arum knows, as does Oscar, that signing David will be a lot cheaper than satisfying GBP’s leading candidate, WBC 130-pound champ Juan Manuel Marquez.
Arum keeps braying like the Democratic donkey he is about JMM’s asking price being sky high and untenable. Even if he playing bad cop to GBP’s good cop, Marquez is unlikely to acquiesce to a discount price. The Mexican will want to be paid reasonable PPV TV money which is far and above what a low profile champ like Diaz can command.
One thing Oscar and Arum do see eye to eye on is that neither Joan Guzman or his Nov. 17 opponent Humberto Soto has, at least now right now, the wider following that Marquez can boast of. On the other hand, there is no Morales Magic or Barrera Bombast to be found in Marquez, either.
If Marquez doesn’t budge and reduce his price, Arum has a solution. Let Manny be Manny and let Manny personally select his next foe.
That works well for Uncle Bob, particularly if he has “sold” Pacman on taking Diaz next.
At the end of the day, Oscar willl always do what's best for GBP and Arum will do the same for his outfit. That's how they got in their legal brawl to start with.
It brings to me the mind the old tale about the snake that couldn't get across the pond. Snake asked the turtle for a ride. Turtle gets the snake from one side to another. Snake then bites turtle's head.
"Why, Mr. Snake, would you do that? I just gave you a ride to safety as you asked."
"Because," Mr. Snake said, "I am a snake and that is what snakes do."
Maybe Manny Pacquiao is a snake charmer but I doubt it.

| taking on a lightweight champ instead of a superfeatherweight champ does not equate to having no balls. i suggest pac allows jmm get the purse he wants and make him pay in the ring. |

Pacman has no balls? hahaha, you mean JMM has no balls. He dropped it after that draw with Pacman. That draw and the controvertial win with Barrera is the only thing that's holding him right now. That's his only backup. That's why GBP and the WBC is trying so hard to force the fight right now.
Why is JMM asking too much everytime he fights Pacman? How much do you think he's asking for the fight with Juarez right now? Barrera probably made more money when he fought Pacman than the JMM-Juarez fight that's coming up.
People don't see is that Pacman is chasing the heavier weight and younger fighters right now. You gotta give Pacman the credit here. He fought what is next on the list, and that list is still getting longer everytime. When Pacman fought older or "legend" fighters, they criticized him. Now he wants to go up and fight young fighters, he's still being criticized? 
"Baby fat" Diaz got the balls for calling out Pacman who is in "the lower weight division", why don't he call out Casamayor or the other Diaz right? |

michael marley is really a cheater. if you count the total of posts here, it is not equal at the number of votes. marley's idea is that he want to show to the readers that he is still on top by getting more posts compare to other writer but honestly it is not.

Oh My God! anyways thats your job, make predictions,have your own opinion.you know guys, it doesnt matter the weight category, it is just for formallity, i mean, ok they will be weight at 130, but they dont fight at 130, you see the their weight during the actual fight is not the same at 130. juan diaz weight 142, manny's last 5 fights he weight 144-145. thats the real fact hes pre[paring for the lightweight coz all the champions in 130 aviods manny.
About the punches, its still there, in his last 6 fights 4 of them won by KO, velazquez, twice with morales and solis, only larios and barrera lasted the 12 rounds. Dont ever say that manny got no balls. for so many years manny is already rated number 1 contender in WBC,WBO, WBA wait why manny is just # 3 in IBF? doest i meant this boxing body is not impressed and satisfied with manny's tallent? or there is other reason for that?, and why barrera didnt want to fight manny before coz he knew deep inside his heart that he cant match manny, why it took so long for him to fight manny now that he doesnt have the belt?  cozif he had a rematch with manny earlier he knew he cant comeback again that will cause him an early retirement, that for MONEY. their last fight just for formality sake, atleast barrera retires not being knockout, see he kept on running just to survive thats what i called "survival mode, get it?
Valero is a good fight for manny,they are both power puncher, but advantage on manny, he got skills and still improving and evolved into a dangerous and wise fighter, but he cant fight in US. he just rely on his punching power, no defense, no skills, his stamina is not yet proven.
Guzman, a tall one but still not impressive in the ring, he has a bit advantage than valero.
floyd mayweather, hes boasting that he never been knockout or knockdown, yeah it is the real fact but im not impress coz ive watched all his recent fight all he can do was "HIT ND RUN" that are being watched all over the world, people spend money for them to watch an exciting fight and worth for their money, so boring.rememner boxers are the modern gladiators.just a segway hehehe...
marquez? after their fight which was resulted into a controversial draw. now hes old like barrera, maybe a nice rematch coz he has the belt and to prove themselves, (manny and marquez)still unfinished business for both of them.
Juan Diaz, David Diaz? well nice opponents for manny, megafight and megamoney, here manny will be tested, these are the tought fighters. David was floored but morales manny can do it also,and can make damage on david.
CONCLUSION? at this moment manny is at his prime, all great boxers came into their prime, barrera, morales, dela hoya, the great chavez, ali,tyson,leonard , holyfield, lewis,and lot of great fighters before, so lets accept the fact that manny is on the top of the world, at his prime, he deserves to be respected like those great boxer during their prime.certainly manny will get old to like them, he will retire soon. Lets accept the fact that manny is the real reason why people all over the world have the interest again in boxing. please avoid these MAFIA thing, if these people came again to manipulate , i bet for sure it will come again to the time when these boxing officionados will get tired of watching boxing.
After Manny Pacquiao, it will take sometime for another Manny Pacquaio to be seen in boxing.
HERE IS A PREDICTION! dont be surprised if MANNY "PACMAN" PACQUIAO will win the belts both in SUPER FEATHERWEIGHT AND LIGHTWEIGHT DIVISION.

hey, to the ever brave anonymous who said that like pacquiao, mayweather is great, think again. you said that whether we like him or not, like mayweather, we have to admit that pacquiao is great. i agreee though, pacquiao is great.
but i don't think PBF is a great fighter dude. just like winky wright, he doesn't fight at all. he's just keep on running till the opponent is tired of running and catching him, and then he hits. and boom, he won another round again.. he boasts of his bad balls that he has never been knocked out or knocked down. the explanation is simple, he doesn't give a hell of a fair match, his mission each night is to scare the opposition by his run-run-hit, run-run-run tactic. that's practically a bullshit. and they consider him no.1 LB4LB??? that SUCKS!! I'm the one that wrote that whether you like PACMAN you have to admit he's a great boxer.... just like Mayweather. As a person I dispise the Pretty Boy, but as a boxer he is a special fighter. I don't give him half the credit he gives himself, but boxing and staying away is an art form. I'd rather watch fighters stand toe to toe as well, but mayweather is never going to do that. He should just say that and people might respect him more.
Anyways... .this article is about the PACMAN. Regardless of his life outside boxing the guy is amazing. I'd pay to watch everyone of his fights, but I wouldn't pay for Mayweathers. That says it all I guess. I am one of many people hopig to see a rematch with JMM, but I'd be just as excited if Juan Diaz got a shot or Rocky Juarez. |
