The Sadness That is Manny Pacquio’s Career Today

A Nasty Custody Battle Takes Place

John Chavez
6/15/2007

When I think about the current situation regarding Manny Pacquiao and the turmoil that surrounds his career I truly feel sad for the Filipino phenom. We have one of the most exciting fighters of our generation in limbo as to what promotional outfit he’ll be fighting for in the future. The thing that makes this situation quite disturbing is Golden Boy Promotion’s seemingly unbreakable stance, on what they feel are justifiable rights to the Pacman.

In my eyes, it’s almost like a divorce in which a child is quite content living with one parent while the other parent tries to forcibly obtain custody regardless of whether the child wants to change locations or not. How does Golden Boy Promotions expect Pacquiao to happily fight under their banner when they are accusing him of some serious crimes?

To call someone a liar is quite an offensive statement where I come from and I cannot believe that Manny is happy with the whole fiasco surrounding him. He might have made a mistake in the past signing a contract under some very emotionally driven circumstances but I think it’s important to realize that an unhappy Pacquiao won’t be the same fighter we’ve seen in the past. While the “Pacman” surely might seem like a wrecking machine when he steps within the ropes, there’s no doubt in this fanatic’s eyes that he is a highly emotional man that can have his feelings hurt like any human out there.

It just seems odd to me that Golden Boy Promotions would call Pacquiao a liar and expect for him to happily fight for them. It’s a disturbing train of thought and I am truly sad for Manny as he his continues career potentially fighting rather unhappily due to legal circumstances. We all saw the fiasco that occurred with Murad Muhammad but I guess the saga continues…

PS. Due to some misinterpretation of the "monkey-dog" picture I used to depict myself and how I felt about the whole situation regarding Manny I decided to change it to a different photo. I would like to make it clear that in now way, shape, or form was I attempting to depict Manny Pacquiao as a monkey or a dog. I like to refer to myself as a chimpanzee from time to time and therefore thought that the picture would describe my feelings rather clearly. I apologize for any discomfort I might have caused any of our readers.
