 There were many losers at Coney Island Friday as speed eating freaks Joey Chestnut and Takeru Kobayashi battled to a regulation time draw. Frankly, the two hot dog contest favorites both inhaled 59 wieners before the closing bell.
Unlike boxing, in which a champion retains his title on a draw, they went in sudden death overtime (maybe literally) or what was euphemistically termed “a dog off.” First guy to wolf down five dogs plus five buns won.

If you don't know what this is in reference to you need only find retired, Floyd Mayweather's latest interview in which he blasts Jim, Larry, and the crew for being racist. Supposedly, praise towards Pavlik, and Pacquiao, and scorn towards him proves that Jim is GL Rockwell, Larry is David Duke, Max is the new Ed Norton from American History X, and Lennox is this generation's Uncle Tom.

French network Canal+ paid lightfly Brahim Asloum 750 000 EUR when he challenged then WBA champ Juan Carlos Reveco plus a bonus of 150 000 EUR in case of victory. When Floyd Mayweather returns to boxing, and it won’t be long, he is going to discover that his throne, his gilded scepter and his title have been occupied.
"Pretty Boy" remains true ring royalty but the P4P Throne now belongs to Manny Pacquiao.

ROUND ONE: Pacman obviously carries the in ring weight (147 pounds) nicely. Difference in hand speed and foot speed is as expected but still remakrable. ROUND TO MANNY.

It was a bad call, for sure, but it was a judgement call. And aging referee Joe Cortez was not fair or firm in blowing the disqualification ruling that handed junior lightweight contender Humberto Soto a loss.
But, if Cortez is looking for an excuse, he can blame the ringside doctors who co-signed his bum decision.

The less said about this joke of a heavyweight fight, the better. Maybe Bob Arum milked a few Vegas Sugar Daddies on this one because I have to think Top Rank was just playing along with the joke on this one.
Mrs. Fields, the cookie lady, probably has better skills and chin than giant joker Fields.

 The former heavyweight champion of all New Jersey must have been smiling when he saw Edison Miranda get neutered by King Arthur Abraham. Not that referee Randy Neumann would hold a grudge, mind you, but he was castigated by Miranda’s team after the first fight they had in Germany.

 Polls have closed and 54% of Boxing Confidential readers have selected Manny Pacquiao as the winner of his lightweight battle with David Diaz tonight from the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada and broadcast on HBO Pay Per View.
35% gave the nod to Diaz, and interestingly, 13% predict a draw.
This fistic scribe sees Manny taking a tough 12-round unanimous decision against a game, but out-matched Diaz.

 The TRUE Mexican boxing icon Julio Cesar Chavez's battles with drugs and alcohol are well known by fans. Yesterday, according to Chavez Sr., he has been sober for one year and appeared on popular Los Angeles Spanish language radio show Piolin por la mañana.
“Living with alcohol and drugs in my life was a living hell,” admitted the Mexican legend.

 What strikes me most about Wilfried Sauerland is that while most of the boxing world, like sheep, mocked Nikolai Valuev as the next big joke, he saw an opportunity to create a heavyweight champion.

 Golden Boy Promotion's blue chip prospect Abner Mares over whelmed fellow Mexican Jonathan Arias over ten rounds Friday night. Mares' offensive was stronger, faster, more varied, and more active during the bout, and Arias' own offensive was non-existence due to Abner's solid defense and quick foot speed.
The final scores were 98-91, 99-90 (twice). Boxing Confidential scored the outing 99-90, with Abner scoring a shut-out but losing one point for a questionable low blow against Arias during the fifth.

Montebello, California's Nestor Garza scored a tough, workman like decision against veteran Jose Angel Beranza. The official judges scored the fight 110-90, 99-91, and 97-93. Boxing Confidential had the fight scored 97-93.
Following the fight, with battered right eye, Garza stated, “I want {Gerry Peñalosa} next.” A fight with Peñalosa has been discussed, but the veteran Filipino has been undeceive in accepting or declining.

With all the whacked out characters who scribble for Boxingconfidential, I thought for sure at least one would defy logic and pick David Diaz to upset Megamanny Pacquiao Saturday night in Las Vegas.
